In Awe and Wonder: treasure

There are some recreations that will never compare to the real thing. Without a doubt in my mind, no matter how we attempt to portray the glory of these moments, we cannot capture the full awe and wonder of the events from the first Christmas story!

But this year I’m thankful for the way God gives us a glimpse into the wonder of it all!

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest,

and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

Luke 2:13-20

Can you imagine the “multitude of the heavenly host praising God?” What an amazing thing to experience! And here those shepherds stood in the fields hearing the full glory of the praise of all the angels!

Then the shepherds went to Bethlehem to see what was announced to them and found the baby lying in the manger. Jesus, the Christ is born!

As you’ve been journeying through this advent season and reading from Genesis to the gospel (good news) Christmas scriptures what has stood out to you? Where has God’s word met you anew?

Something that stands out to me, the thing I want to take from the scripture as I read it this year was how Mary responded to all that had happened:

But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.

Luke 2: 19

I want to take that with me… I want to treasure wonder of it all, to take the awe into each day, to ponder and be blessed by the goodness of God shown across the entirety of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and as I’ve experienced God blessing me in my daily life! God is good! Amen!
