Last week in chapel I knew I wanted to speak about the body of Christ. I really like using object lessons to help relate scripture and I have had several for this topic in the past. As I was preparing the message, I imagined toys in my children’s playroom that had many pieces.
So… I ventured into the arena of toys and looked around… my eyes landed on the Potato Head and I realized how perfect it was to illustrate this scripture. So, at chapel that night, I used the potato head and showed the importance of each piece in the right place and while you can put 5 sets of eyes on a Potato Head it will look silly and will be missing important pieces. We need all the pieces, each are important, each have a different role in our bodies. Even the parts of OUR body that we don’t remember we have (like our gall bladder, adrenal glands, and thyroid) are VITAL to our being.
Often times I find that people can’t see their value in the body of Christ because they aren’t the upfront, noticeable members of the body. They aren’t the teachers, preachers or leaders. But ALL of us have a role in the body, we are ALL needed, God has a PURPOSE for each of us.
Today I REALLY saw that in action.
We have a group of Leadership Development teens at Camp. Throughout our activities I saw those who previously said, “I am not comfortable talking in front of groups.” Or “I don’t do well with people I don’t know.”… be used in a MIGHTY way at camp. From the person who would jump up to help with any camper who needed their snack/drink, to the campers who shared scripture and spoke from their heart (all the while saying they don’t ever speak in front of groups), to campers stepping up to lead songs, wash dishes, pick up trash, and the list goes on and on…
I was so humbled and happy to see God work through them! It is so amazing to watch us work as the masterpieces God created us to be, to come together as the body of Christ.
Tonight, know God has a plan, purpose, and a place for you in His Kingdom work here on earth!
