Lent Photo-a-Day Devotion This year I am hosting a Lent photo-a-day devotion! Want to join in with me? I would be happy to have friends join the journey to Easter. If you aren't familiar with a photo-a-day challenge for a thing like Lent, let me explain. For every day from today (Ash Wednesday) until Easter … Continue reading Lent Photo-a-Day Devotion

Wednesdays with Jillene: “What do you want?”

March 22, 2017March 22, 2017 / jillenenarraway / Leave a comment

"What do you want?" What a question! The intent of the asking evident in inflection. Tone shows whether the inquiry is sincere in discerning  or if it is it is asked out of interrupted frustration. How many times do I wish someone would just ask me what I want? How many times am I asked … Continue reading Wednesdays with Jillene: “What do you want?”

Wednesdays with Jillene: seeking things that are “certain”

March 1, 2017March 1, 2017 / jillenenarraway / Leave a comment

"In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." Who really wants to talk about either? And here I go and start a blog post off with this quote? I think it was bit unavoidable for this quote to come to my mind as March first sits firmly in a season … Continue reading Wednesdays with Jillene: seeking things that are “certain”

Wednesdays with Jillene: map and mirror

February 18, 2015 / jillenenarraway / 2 Comments

Watching the 11 o’clock news can be amusing, especially on occasions when it is almost as if the broadcasters are up past their bedtimes. Some nights are filled with silly slip ups from the reporters, playing clips that belong to a different news story, losing live feeds, and other nights the content leaves me wondering … Continue reading Wednesdays with Jillene: map and mirror

Our Calah Rose had a 9th birthday perfectly suited to her! She had a friend party yesterday, watched a parade today, enjoyed water games and pool time, ate Chinese food and apple pie with ice cream (her birthday request), video calls with family, opened presents, and fireworks to end the night. Calah Rose, we love you so much!
Life is too busy sometimes. Seems like I’ve been caught in one of those “busy seasons.” One of my favorite places to sit, breathe, relax, recharge, and pray is by the river. Today was busy but we found the moments to squeeze in time at the river. After a while I had to coax my girls into leaving… probably about 15 times of saying, “Okay, we need to pack up and leave soon.” Guess they needed to spend time at the river too.
As parents we have an enormous privilege and responsibility to raise our children! Some days parents feel like they’ve got this! Other days? Well… not so much. On those days little video clips like this show me a bird’s eye view… and it is beautiful! Mommas who may be feeling a little worn thin, less than equipped, and in general like they don’t measure up… you’ve got this! God’s grace and mercy show up for up for you minute by minute! And when all else fails: go play outside. God’s creation is beautiful both you and your children will benefit from playing in today!
Part 2 of wedding pictures: Marriage is a beautiful gift. God made humans to be loved and to love. He gave the ultimate gift of love in Christ’s sacrifice so we could know and experience His love and love in return. God made us to be people in relationship: with other people and His church, in friendships, and in families. And in that way God also gave us marriage… within marriage we see, as husbands and wives, a glimpse even deeper into God’s love for us. In marriage we find unity, sacrifice, joy, heartache, beauty, and hardship that show us the true depths of love. Marriage is special. Today my oldest married his bride. Micah and Ellie, Joshua and I are thankful to be your parents, whole-heartedly cover you in prayer, and celebrate the start of your new family. We love you!

Do you know what today is? Yes, Yes… it is May the 4th be with you day. Sure, sure… it is a work day. But today is no ordinary Thursday. Today is cheesecake day! @mikachu_113 and @elliecaiiit ’s wedding is in two days!! And I have cheesecakes to make for tomorrow’s rehearsal dinner! We’re so excited to celebrate their marriage! The cheesecakes are just added fun.
