It was a rough morning. Actually they’d all been tough for more days than I care to remember. Somehow the best made plans turn to chaos minutes before the bus is due to arrive. Shoes go missing, laces knot, sweatshirts are a no show, zippers won’t line up… and the attitudes! Oh the attitudes… Tempers flaring, tears flowing, accusations abounding, and anger growing.
So we (finally) walked about the door and there was this… Staring right back at my glare.
Kicked me right in the gut that morning.
Sure it was school spirit on their shirts but what about my spirit? What was I wearing?
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.
More than outer covering, the work of the Spirit is an inner transformation.
Need a little school spirit today? Pull out your school shirt, wear an outfit featuring your school color. The work of the Spirit comes from a place deeper than your shirt drawer.
A matter of the heart, development of character may be represented in things that can be seen from outside but the primary work of the Spirit is sanctification which happens deep within…
“People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
When God looks at my heart, what does He see? A tough question but one I know I need to face.
How about you?
