Wednesdays with Jillene: when what was lost is found

A set of important keys has been missing for several days. I lost them. I felt like I looked for them EVERYWHERE. Josh helped look for them. The kids have helped. I’ve been VERY busy lately, but, even in the busiest of moments, I found myself still thinking of new places to look for these keys. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking of the keys.

Tonight at my office, I set my bag down and heard a jingling sound. Now here are three things you should know:
1: I was wearing headphones and listening to music, but even so, I heard the jingle.
2: Earlier this afternoon, I had that bag upside down (again) checking every pocket. I didn’t hear a jingle then.
3: just tonight at Wednesday Bible Study, we read the parables Jesus told of things lost and found from Luke 15. And just now, when I least expected it, I heard the jingle, reached in to the pocket, and pulled out those once lost but now found keys. And, in my shock, I jumped up and ran for my phone to tell everyone back at the house of how I unexpectedly found the keys.

Sometimes God brings the Word to life right in front of your eyes! One (of the many) things that stood out during Bible Study tonight on Luke 15 was the joy and celebration in each parable when what was lost was then found.

And you know I was happy to find those lost keys.

But the parables are more than stories about lost things. They are metaphors to teach truth. And I’m thinking really hard on these truths right now. About my heart and God’s heart for the lost. And how great the rejoicing truly must be over one lost person who repents.

What is God speaking you through these parables?
